Tiji Festival Upper Mustang Trek 14N/15D

Tiji Festival in Upper Mustang is the most important and respected cultural event to celebrate mythical story about holiness where holy power defeats the evil power. In this famous enlightening and spiritual celebration, colorful dance performs by monks at Chhode Monastery.

In 17th century, Mustangi King Samdup Rabten invited Sakya Trizin Ngawang Kunga Sinam to Lo-Manthang. He performed the special Vajrakila ritual at Chhode Monastery, Lo-Manthang for the wellbeing of all beings and also to dispel all negative elements in Mustang.

Since then, the monks of Chhode Monastey have been performing this religious dance festival according to Tibetan Lunar calendar in the month of May for 3 days in the Mustang Royal Palace courtyard.

Ame Pal, the warrior founded the Buddhist Kingdom in 1380 and built much of Lo-Manthang, an isolated part of Upper Mustang. The last king Jigme Dorje Palbar Bista died in 2016.

Many pilgrimages from different part of Mustang participate with colorful custom dress. Lama monks plays traditional music, drums, horn and many other instruments. Tibetan traditional song, sword dance performs during festival.

During this Tiji Festival Trek, one can admire the mesmerizing dessert scenic landscapes, natural diversity, caves, Himalayas and deepest gorge Kali Gandaki river.

The most significant and spectacular TIJI Festival is a 3-day event, which is going to held on 8, 9, and 10 May in 2021. It is performed in the square in front of the TashiGephel Palace, within the walled city of Lo Manthang.
