Known as the forbidden trans-Himalayan kingdom until it was opened for tourism in 1992. It’s a unique isolated geological formation, colorful cliffs, secret caves, ancient Buddhist shrines, barren and deserted landscapes offer to visitors a different trekking experience.


Their culture, language, and customs of the Mustang people are very close to their Tibetan cousins. That’s why it is also known as “The Little Tibet”. Lo-Manthang (3840m) is the capital of Upper Mustang.


On the bank of Kali Gandaki lies Jomsom and Kagbeni which are the home town of entrepreneurial Thakali people, famous for Thakali cuisines and Apple Bandy (Marpha).

Chogo (Marang) la 4230m is the highest elevation point during this trek. From Jomsom to Lo-Manthang, it’s a 154.5 km/96 miles round trip.

During this trek one can admire the magnificent view of Dhaulagiri (8167m), Manaslu (8163m), Annapurna (8091m), and Nilgiri (7061m).

Since it’s a rain shadow of the Himalayas, monsoon (June- August) also can visit as well as autumn (Sept - Nov) and Spring (March-May).

NOTE:

The most significant and spectacular TIJI Festival is a 3-day event, which is going to held the next year 2021 on 8, 9 and 10 May. It is performed in the square in front of the Tashi Gephel Palace, within the walled city of Lo Manthang.
